The Align pilling finding is counterintuitive. Owners who wash warm and machine dry get near-zero pilling. Owners who wash on delicate and air dry get high pilling. The gentler you are, the more it pills. The Wunder Train shows zero pilling no matter how it is washed. But owners who wash warm and machine dry report dramatically less pilling than those who wash delicate and air dry. Multiple owners at 6 and 7 years of weekly use are in this dataset.
The working explanation from multiple owners: heat remelts surface microfibers back into the fabric. Delicate washing leaves them free to tangle and pill.
I have probably 15 pairs spanning from first release to a couple months old. I wash them all on regular warm and throw them in the dryer. No pilling.
